What Does Bariatric Surgery Involve?

It serves two main functions:

Bypass vs. Sleeve: Which is Better?
Keep in mind that there are no standard diagnoses, and each patient needs a personalized evaluation. Sleeve gastrectomy may be less resistant, as it only restricts stomach volume. If the patient overeats, the stomach can stretch, leading to weight gain again.
Gastric bypass is more effective because it not only restricts but also blocks a significant percentage of carbohydrate absorption—something the sleeve doesn’t do.
However, if the patient doesn’t cooperate, everything can fail regardless of the procedure.
What Is the Minimum Weight for Bariatric Surgery?
A BMI over 30 or excess weight of more than 20 kilos.
Must have attempted diets without success.
Who Are Not Candidates?
- Eating disorders like bulimia
- Suicidal tendencies
- Alcoholism
- Use of psychoactive substances
Pre-Bariatric Surgery Diet
- hypocaloric diet is recommended to stabilize your health
- nutritional supplement shakes instead of meals.

– An obese person’s stomach is 2 to 3 times larger than normal, so they eat more.
– Their body absorbs a high percentage of fats and carbohydrates in the first section of the small intestine.
– Certain diseases increase the predisposition to store more fat.
